I'm fond of art, that is why now I am a student of an art college. It was founded in 1945 when our country was restoring economy after the Great Patriotic war and needed different specialists for it. It was called the Ural Art and Trades School at that time. The main task of the school was to breathe new life in the traditional Ural trades: stone carving, casting, tray painting and jeweler's art. The college trained highly-qualified masters of these trades and prepared the students for pedagogical work.
Today the college is called "The Ural College of Applied Arts and Design". This name refiects the meaning of the training it gives. The college has a highly-qualified staff, among them well-known artists, art historians and experts in different sciences. There are two departments in the college. The students of "Decorative and Applied Arts and Folk Trades Department" study artistic metal working, artistic stone carving or artistic articles in practice.
I am at the "Design Department". The students of this department can learn object design, surroundings design or graphic design. They study general subjects, such as World History, Culture History, Literature, English, make research work, write course papers and theses. It will help them to broaden their minds. A designer must know a lot about his profession: the methods of artistic design, design styles formation, the fundamentals of esthetics, ergonomics, chromatics, mechanics, patent science and many other things. He must be skillful in designing different interiors, articles for household use, business and industrial putposes, trimmings. So they study special subjects: composition, drawing, painting and others, work in the workshops. All this helps them to master their speciality.
To make an artistic work is not an easy thing. It demands a lot of energy and concentration. Each product calls for detailed thinking. The subject must bevthoroughly considered in the master's mind. The style must be perfect. To manage such a task it is necessary to be a creative prson and use your imagination in full, to be hard-working and well-educated in many fields, possess good taste and sense of harmony.
