Karakattam (Tamil: கரகாட்டம் or "karakam (கரகம் 'water jar") dance ") is an ancient folk dance of Tamil Nadu is carried out in praise of the goddess Mariamman rain [1]. The performers balance pot on his head. Traditionally, this dance is divided into two types- Aatta Karakam Dancing with decorative pots on their heads and symbolizes joy and happiness. It is mainly performed to entertain the audience. Sakthi Karakam performed only in temples as a spiritual offering. [2]
