Overall I'm incredibly impressed with how well this snorkel works. I have used it for a single (long) day of snorkeling in Puerto Rico. I can't speak for the durability, but I did test it in several scenarios and will describe the results here.

Before I begin with the scenarios, I want to note a few points.
-Construction: The lenses on the goggles are made of glass. The silicone straps seem like they will last a long time and the snorkel and mask both feel like they are well-made.
-Snorkel valves: There is a plastic piece at the top which is attached on a hinge. When the snorkel is tilted in the right way, the plastic part rotates and covers the opening of the tube. The shape of the plastic piece is such that as water moves up along the tube (like when a wave is about to go over the top, or when you are diving), it forces the top valve closed. Below the mouth piece, there is a one-way valve that makes it much easier to eject water from the snorkel.
-Snorkel attachment: There is an open plastic hook where you can slide the goggle band through. It is easy to attach, and not surprisingly, to un-attach. The band slipped out of the hook multiple times while I was pulling the goggles onto my face. It only takes a few seconds to attach it again, but I definitely would have preferred a more secure clamp. The tube never detached while I was actually snorkeling. Note that the tube of the snorkel is bent, so if the clasp rotates to the convex side, it opens a gap to slide the goggle strap in/out. If it rotates to the concave side (the proper orientation), the end of the hook is pressed against the tube, and the strap should never come loose. In theory, the strap should never come out while snorkeling.
-View through goggles: There was no distortion in my vision and I had a nice wide viewing area. They did fog up several times, but I could have prevented that by using defogger or soap. Fogging seems to be an issue with all goggles I've used, and these were no worse than average (and probably a little bitter better) in that respect.
-Fit: The snorkel has a lower part (with the mouth piece), a flexible hinge, and an upper part (the rest of the tube). The upper and lower parts can be rotated at the hinge, about the axis of the tube. This allows you to adjust the angle that the mouthpiece is at. The goggles felt comfortable, and after multiple hours, I still wasn't feeling any sort of discomfort. These are the first goggles I've worn that haven't produced uncomfortable pressure points around the the edge of the goggles and bridge of my nose.
-Leaks: I experienced no leaks through the goggles or snorkel.

Now for the test cases.
Scenario 1) Standing out of the water, breathing through the snorkel: Before I actually started snorkeling, I put on the goggles and started breathing through the snorkel and was making sure everything fit properly. The rocker valve at the end of the tube closed when I moved my head in certain directions, which prevented me from breathing. That was a little disconcerting, but then again, I wasn't snorkeling yet.
Scenario 2) Normal snorkeling at the surface of the water: I was able to breathe just fine. I had no trouble getting enough air, and didn't experience any problems whatsoever. The upper valve did not close unexpectedly either. I was glad that the tube didn't smell or taste like cheap plastic.
Scenario 3) Snorkeling in choppy surf: Waves were crashing over me at several points, and would temporarily submerge the end of the snorkel. For the most part no water entered the snorkel, and when it did, it was just a small. If water entered, it was not enough to actually prevent me from taking further breaths from the snorkel.
Scenario 4) Water in the tube: The lower part of the snorkel, which leads to the lower valve, can hold a small amount of water, so you should know that you have water in the tube long before it actually blocks off the opening to the top. When you want to clear the valve, you just breathe out with a moderate amount of force. It was surprisingly easy to clear water in the tube. I am extremely pleased with how easy it is to clear the water out--it is nearly effortless.
Scenario 5) I dove down to about 15 feet, stopped and waited several seconds, then went back to the surface. I hesitantly breathed in (without clearing out the tube first) and found that no water had entered...I could continue breathing normally as if nothing had happened. I tried this multiple times, and it worked every time. In general, I still blew out forcefully to eject any water that might have entered during a dive, but it is great having the peace of mind that this step is generally unnecessary.

Bottom line: I'm thrilled with just how well this snorkel works. I'll never go back to using a standard snorkel.
