Good morning.
This is in regards Mary Jo Weaver, our Code enforcer.
If you are wondering why she’s always here, then keep reading.
If not, enjoy your day.
No worries.
(If you don’t’ have a computer, ask me to print it out for you. This will be hard to read on the phone..)
I have had two lengthy conversations with Mary Jo and this what is going on lately in our neighborhood.
Mary Jo Weaver:
[email protected]• Mary Jo W. is ALWAYS in Fairwood Forest because someone has complained. It’s not because she chooses to come out.
• The reason that I’m having conversations with Mary Jo, is that Peter and I are about to get a notice in regards to our garage.
• Yes, someone is complaining about ALL the garages in the neighborhood. A realtor told me that garages help all comps.
• Mary Jo has 100 open cases between Brigadoon and Fairwood Forest! And that it takes a lot of her time to process each one. Pics, documentation, following up, etc.
• Mary Jo did get a good laugh when I told her what I posted a couple of years ago: “If you have never had a code violation, then there is a good chance you are the one calling.”
• I admit that I’m guilty of reporting the house that had a construction job abandoned across the street from me. They left a green dumpster and blue tarp on the roof for me stare at for months. I only called the city since the owner and/or construction failed to post a number to call or I would have called direct. His bad. - Peter and I keep our phone numbers at our front door.
• I also called t
he City about Park Place overgrowth on the sidewalk. Mary Jo’s map said it was our problem.
After she researched it, she learned that it IS Park Place’s, and NOT FF, responsibility to trim it back and she has informed Park Place.
Fairwood Ave will get a usable sidewalk again, by the weekend (I think)
OK,
Now on to what I told Mary Jo that I would like to see improved in our neighborhood, socially.
• I said that I would like to see our neighborhood have more teamwork and not bully against each other.
• Example of how to do this: I was aware that someone was about to get a notice about their fence and offered to come down and help remove it before the notice got there. (I did not get response from the homeowner)
• As for the tarps on the carports, - We all know that Peter and I are strapped for cash. And we can sympathize if you can’t buy a garage door. I told Mary Jo that I would have liked to have, at least, seen the tarp owners meet the neighborhood half way and at least paint the tarp to blend in with the house. Most of us have leftover paint to loan out. But Mary Jo said that a complaint was called in and they all have to be removed.
• I asked Mary Jo about one of the notices, that she posted, and she was glad that I brought it up since she cannot locate the homeowner. She asked if I could contact said homeowner and try to save the h/o $250 if they city comes out and fixes the problem. The homeowner was happy that I got involved and tried to save her money.
• AND I did tell Mary Jo that this neighborhood has gone plumb crazy and that I would like to see the crazy get toned down a bit. And that hopefully, the calls will not be as frequent to her if we work out our own problems.
HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS :
• If something is an eyesore to you, then make a suggestion (or have someone that has a relationship with them speak to them) They may not know they are upsetting the neighborhood.
• If you think someone needs to pressure wash mold off the side, try to barter with them. If I pressure wash, what can you do for my house? Do you have some leftover material that I can use for a home project? Ex.
• Was the black trailer really that much of eyesore for someone or does calling Mary Jo keep you from being bored?
Everyone that I spoke with didn’t have a problem (it was well kept and tucked away). But Mary Jo gave them a notice - even though I spoke up and said that I didn’t see a problem with it.
• Sometime, try standing in the street and look at your house. If you were going to sell it, what would you change? If you find something that would keep buyers away, then keep mind that your neighbor across the street have to look at it everyday!
• Take a look at Peter’s and my yard. We’ve tried everything. No Green thumbs or landscaping skills. Any suggestions?
• There is a home with a flag that needs to be retired. If I find a new one at a garage sell, I will offer it to them so that the old one can be retired properly.
• To all of the houses that back up to Fairwood Ave – why don’t you guys team up and take turns mowing around the sidewalk, rather than each of you dragging a mower back there? Just suggestion of teamwork.
* If you see someone's trash bin still out after Wed, Why don't don't you roll it up for them and knock the door and say, "Hi. My name is Friendly Neighbor. The code enforcer has been issuing notices for cans that are left out. I just didn't want you to get a no
