Oyilattam (Tamil: ஒயிலாட்டம், it means the grace of dance) is a folk dance with origins in the region of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. [1] Dance has its origins in southern Tamil Nadu and is mainly carried out in the district of Madurai, Tirunelveli district and Tiruchirapalli District. [2] It was traditionally a dance, where several people are standing in a row and do rhythmical steps to the musical accompaniment, the number of dancers is growing; over the last ten years, women also began performing the dance. As a rule, the musical accompaniment is Thavil and artists have colored handkerchiefs tied to their fingers [3] and wearing ankle bells.
